What is a Catering Equipment Engineer?

They are a highly skilled and qualified engineer who is certified to work on catering equipment.

In our case this means that all of our engineering team are Gas Safe Registered for Catering Equipment and are certified to COMCAT 5. All of our team are also qualified to work on LPG gas and mobile catering vans.

These qualifications do not happen overnight. Each person has first had to undertake a 3 year apprenticeship to qualify as a Domestic Gas Engineer. They then have to study to be certified to work on commercial catering equipment, which is much larger and more complicated than domestic equipment. In addition, they have to be certified in LPG gas for our more remote customers who are not connected to natural gas.

As a specialist service, all of our engineers have then gained qualification to work in mobile catering vans, which requires a separate certification under Gas Safe regulations. With the large number of outdoor catering events now happening in Scotland, this is an excellent service to be able to offer our customers

All of the above qualifications must be re-taken every 5 years, otherwise the engineers would no longer be able to work on gas catering equipment.

Everyone on the engineering team is NICEIC 17th edition electrically certified.

All of our engineers have PVG certification from Disclosure Scotland, as this is required for some of our larger contracts. Unlike the basic or enhanced disclosure, where the person is checked every 2 years, PVG provides a continual check from the day the certification is issued. If anyone on our team commits an offence, or is even suspected of one, this triggers a response from Disclosure Scotland which informs all interested parties.

When they have all gained all the relevant qualifications, then the practical training begins. All of our team are sent for training on catering equipment at a centre run either by a manufacturer or by one of our spare parts suppliers.

Training carried out in the past year has been with Hobart, Blue Seal and Middleby (Houno).

In the coming months new Hobart equipment coming out, for which we have scheduled training, and a number of the engineers have to re-sit their Gas Safe Certification.

Health and Safety.

As a company we are dedicated to the health and safety of our staff and our customers.

Each member of our team, including the office staff and directors, have had extensive E-Learning training in Health and Safety through “Human Focus”, which is an ongoing process.

We also have a Health & Safety advisor who checks our premises and our processes every year, and advises on changes and updates which we implement.

React Catering Services Ltd has Safe Contractor and CHAS certification. These are updated annually and are recognised SSIP certifications.

Our History

React Catering Services Ltd started trading 1st August 2007.

At that time the company had four directors and one apprentice engineer.
We began by only repairing commercial catering equipment, such as ovens, cookers, dishwashers and fryers.

There was Alan Graham in the office and John Currie, Brian Campbell and Fraser Robison (now retired) out on the road along with Graeme McAughey, our then apprentice.

We have always said we “under promise and over deliver”

As the company has grown the team has grown with us and we have developed a great deal of talent over the years

We now have a team of eleven. Our office staff are Linda, Maggie. Pamela and Alan, who look after all the administration for the company.

Our engineering team is now 6 strong. We also have a Project Manager who designs and manages entire kitchen projects.

We can look at any job from a 4 slice toaster repair to designing and installing an entire kitchen in a bare room, no matter what the size.

All of our engineers are trained and certified to work on every type of catering equipment. Other companies have electrical engineers to look at electrical equipment or gas engineers who can look at natural gas equipment but not LPG gas. No matter which engineer we send to a customer, they are Qualified to look at any item of equipment. If an engineer is onsite for an electric fryer and the customer asks him to look at a gas cooker, where other companies would have to send another engineer, our engineer is able to look at it.

Our engineers are the only ones in Scotland trained in the repair of MKN ovens and Granuldisk Dishwashers. They are also trained in all other types of equipment.
