What is a Catering Equipment Engineer?

A catering equipment engineer is a highly skilled professional trained to install, service, and repair a wide range of commercial catering equipment.

Our engineers are Gas Safe Registered and certified to COMCAT 5, with additional qualifications in LPG systems — essential for serving clients in remote or off-grid locations. Each engineer begins their career with a three-year apprenticeship in domestic gas before progressing to commercial certification, reflecting the increased complexity and scale of commercial kitchen equipment. Every engineer also holds NICEIC 17th or 18th Edition electrical certification, ensuring safe and compliant work on integrated systems.

To ensure continuous suitability for sensitive and high-trust environments, all engineers are PVG certified via Disclosure Scotland. This certification provides ongoing monitoring, ensuring any changes in criminal records are immediately flagged to relevant parties — a vital safeguard for clients in healthcare, education, and large-scale operations.

We place a strong emphasis on continued professional development. Our engineers regularly attend specialist training courses delivered by leading manufacturers and OEM-approved centres. Recent training has included programmes with Rational, MKN, Electrolux, Merrychef and Maidaid, equipping our team with the latest technical knowledge and hands-on expertise across a broad range of catering equipment.

Commitment to Health, Safety & Quality

Since our founding in 2007, React Catering Services Ltd has remained committed to the highest standards of safety, compliance, and operational excellence. All staff — including office personnel and directors — undertake structured Health & Safety training through our partnership with CEDA, with regular updates to reflect legislative and procedural changes. We also retain an external Health & Safety advisor who conducts annual audits of our facilities and working practices.

We are proud to hold recognised industry certifications, including SafeContractor, Construction and CHAS, of which are part of the SSIP (Safety Schemes in Procurement) accreditation framework.
